Do people understand what they are saying?

I am one that really likes to avoid political talk. I feel that if you are a strong Democrat, no matter how many arguments a Republican makes to you, you ain't changing your mind. Likewise, if you see things in line with the Republicans, no Democrat is going to convince you otherwise.

Something I saw on Facebook this morning just really struck me. And made me wonder.

A friend of mine who is well educated, had the following as her status on FB:

XXXX was unimpressed by the RNC - more of the same negativity, arrogance, and entitlement in a world that needs change, light, and love :)

Hmmm.... This caught my attention. Let's disengage from the fact that I thought Sarah Palin kicked major political ass last night. Any doubts or questions I had about her character or authenticity were put to rest. She's a fighter, and I like that.

But what does that statement that my friend made mean? A world that needs change, light, and love?

What does that mean in actual terms? Should we all hold hands, smoke a joint, and listen to the Beatles? Should we all go to the Ashram and meditate? Should we hug the lunatics and fanatics and all bond over the myriad of things we (don't) have in common? Maybe we should run through the fields naked together. Hell, I don't know!

No offense to my friend, who I do love dearly, but to me, this was a statement that made absolutely no sense.

I am definitely looking forward to the debates and seeing how this election plays out.

UPDATE:
Just to preempt anything, I didn't post this to start any sort of political debate... as mentioned, I really hate getting involved in those! I really just wondered what my friend meant by her statement. That's all!

I totally agree with your first paragraph, so you can already guess what I think of Sarah Palin. ;)

Why not ask your friend what she meant? :)

I'm not sure about the first paragraph, actually. I used to be Republican (born and raised), but now I don't know what I am. At first I thought omg if I'm not Republican that must mean I'm democrat!!! But really why does it have to be a side? Why can't we just stand by the person who has what we think it takes? That's where I stand as far as the fun p word.

i totally agree with you...no matter the political side, there was no arguing that she gave a great speech last night, in my opinion anyway!

Someone above has the name Sugar & Rice??...that's awfully close to my name...weird.

Anyway, I am not much for arguing politics either. People just seem to believe what they want to believe. It wouldn't have mattered what Palin said in her speech...your friend would have said the same thing regardless. Some people just refuse to listen to both sides. I, however, do look at both sides, and I rely on these upcoming debates to make my decision, so it kind of bothers me when other people don't really want to hear what the candidates have to say.

I like the part about "light, and love". What does "light" have to do with politics?? And truly...same goes for "love"? I haven't heard either side focusing on anything too lovey :).

Your friend sounds like a hippie!

I agree that Sarah Palin gave a kick-ass speech last night. She had some great zingers at Obama.

ugh. election time always brings out a crapload of political talk around the ILs - whom i love dearly, but don't always agree with.

i can't wait till it's over, frankly.

I think this may be the first presidential election I remember so many interested in politics at all. I think it's quite amazing regardless of what "side" you're on.

That's kind of funny . . . I'd never thought of democrats as hippies :)
